West comnissioned Boydell to market an engraving after his famous painting executed in London in 1772 (now in the collection of the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts). Although historically inaccurate in details, this legendary image set the tone for the Europeans' imaginings of the Quakers' dealing with the "noble savage."
