Chapter 12 of the Book of Revelation describes a woman descending from heaven, “clothed with the sun, the moon under her feet,” and on her head, a crown of twelve stars. As she prepares to give birth, she is confronted by a red dragon with seven heads who wants to devour her child. At the top left, her newborn child rises safely up to heaven.
