Porfirio Díaz makes declarations to Mr. Creelman about the civic freedoms of the people. 1908. Print by Alberto Beltrán.

In early 1908, Porfirio Díaz gave an interview in Chapultepec Castle to the North American journalist James Creelman, of "Pearson’ s Magazine" in New York. The dictator stated that he would be pleased to see the rise of political opposition parties, since Mexico was prepared to lead by democratic means. As usual, Porfirio Díaz deceived the people through these press releases.
