Philadelphia-based Frank Hyder teaches painting at Moore College of Art and Design. After receiving a Senior Fulbright Grant in 2001, Hyder lived and worked in Venezuela and forged a strong connection in the Latin American art world. His work evokes the metaphorical and mythological. He employs rhythm, vibrant color, texture, and large formats. The carved surface of The Hopeful gives it a tactile, sculptural quality and is inspired by Hyder’s earlier work in the medium of woodblock printing.
