Dispossession of the land of the Yaquis. (The army of Don Porfirio at the service of Yankee/American companies) Print by Leopoldo Méndez.
José María Leyva, "Cajeme", led the Sonora Yaquis in the struggle for the defense of the Bacatete and Valle del Mayo lands. The porfirismo regime pursued these honest and brave peasants with unprecedented cruelty, who through their sacrifice serve as an example of patriotism that will remain unchanged throughout our history. The Mexican Revolution has done absolute justice to the Yaquis by returning property that had always been theirs.
