Originally from Brazil, Ferjo is inspired by the works of the Old Masters like Leonardo DaVinci and combines them with work by artists such as Salvador Dali and Marc Chegall. After graduating from the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, Ferjo toured Europe and developed a fascination for DaVinci’s painting of the Mona Lisa. This artwork inspired his series of Mona Lisa paintings that depict her in a variety of fashions ranging from bikinis to traditional Brazilian clothing. This image of Mona Lisa wears distinctly modern clothing and sits casually on the floor. She exists in a realistic world but the window reveals a surrealist landscape, adding complexity by playing with perspective, and the discontinuity of space.
