Suzanne Benton is a New York native. She has extensively traveled, sharing her art in over 34 countries. She is a painter, printmaker and creator of metal masks which she uses for performance art. Her monoprint, Goddess, features a six-handed goddess on a stage, emanating mystical power. The red tone creates an emotional and powerful work. Using complementary colors, a delicate green embossment is depressed into the paper in a semi-circular design, suggesting a theatrical setting. The deity is possibly the Indian Hindu goddess Kali, destroyer of evil forces. The collaged figure of the goddess, standing on a pedestal, is surrounded by a gold background, suggesting her power and importance. Benton uses chine collé, layering red squares at the bottom of the composition on top of the ornate embossment.
