Sarah Brayer was born in New York, but she has worked for most her career in Kyoto, Japan. She specializes in washi paperworks and aquatint prints. Washi is a handmade paper created from the bark of gampi trees. The bark is steamed, soaked and pressed until it is dried and ready to be separated into sheets. Washi paper has a lot of texture, coming from the fibers of the bark.

Brayer was honored for her washi paperworks celebrating traditional Japanese culture, with an exhibition at an ancient Heian Temple in 1992. Blossoms is a handmade print that captures two traditionally-dressed woman, walking into the distant pink cherry blossom sunset at the top of the composition. The kimono on the left is decorated with a layer of silver and gold flowers. Muted colors give Blossoms a relaxed tone.
