Paintings depicting women at court often have a voyeuristic quality. In this scene, a male viewer peers from a window into the segregated female quarters (zenana), watching a royal woman bathe with the help of her attendants. This image indicates the overlap between sacred and secular images, as the royal protagonists here are replaced by the Hindu god Krishna (identified by his blue skin) and his consort Radha.
